AMS: Setting the Standard for Enjoyable Layovers
"Go through your phone book, call people and ask them to drive you to the airport. The ones who will drive you are your true friends. The rest aren't bad people; they're just acquaintances."
- Jay Leno
Whenever I fly, I try my best to fly nonstop and avoid layovers. On a recent trip, however, we had an unavoidable short layover at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. What a fantastic place, like no airport I've seen before. They offer a million different seating areas with various kinds of chairs and sofas, all of which looked very comfortable and roomy. Some seating areas were very private; others arranged more socially. There were massage chairs, too. It is the first time I have ever wished that I had more time to hang out in an airport. If I'm scheduling a flight in the future that offers a stopover at AMS as one of the choices, I'll be looking for a long 6-hour layover. Seriously. It's that nice. I wish I would have had more time to walk around and see everything they had there, but I only managed to get a few photographs during our brief time there. Still, you'll get an idea of what I mean.
